Passport Hudson Valley

Plan your best day EVER!

Our specialty is planning perfect itineraries for spectacular day trips.

Welcome to Passport Hudson Valley!

Do you love daytrips and micro-adventures?

Do you love exploring the Hudson Valley with your family?

Are you looking for kid-friendly hikes and other outdoor activities that are tested and proven to be WORTH your precious time?

If you said YES to any of these, then you’re in the right place!

This site is small now but will be growing every day, as more adventures are documented!

My passion is exploring this amazing area that we call home. It’s vast and it’s fabulous – full of riches, and sort of nebulous in terms of its beginning and ending, geographically speaking. I’ll be covering mostly Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, Greene, and Columbia counties.

My focus admittedly and unapologetically on the mountains and rivers, lakes and streams. My first love is nature. I may sprinkle in some historic sites and museums, because i also live to learn, but I don’t intend for this site to be a comprehensive tourism guide.

This site will be a great guide for FAMILIES – meaning, it will be chock full of hikes that are feasible for kids of all ages, outdoor activities that kids will LOVE, and restaurant recommendations that will appeal to young taste buds.

I will also be creating educational materials that will make your adventures even more exciting. Kids LOVE documenting their travels (at least mine do,) and having some fun facts about the local sites and hikes will make the trips even more meaningful.

So what is the purpose of this site?

I’ve lived in the Hudson Valley for my entire life, and I haven’t seen it all. Not even close. But, I have seen some amazing pieces of it, and I have found some places that are downright magical. I’ve been a frequent flyer in certain areas, and I love to share my accumulated experiences with folks who want to plan fantastic family adventures. Most of the photos I post on social media result in comments such as “this is so pretty, where is this?” After getting lots of those comments, I decided to start this blog.

I know how difficult it is to plan itineraries that focus on family fun. Often, hiking guides recommend long trails, or hikes that are difficult, dangerous, or just too crowded.

My intention is to share my favorite “Four Hour Tours,” which pair a short, kid-friendly activity with some good eats.

Stay tuned for our first tour!

Black Creek Preserve, Esopus NY

One of our favorite places to visit year-round is Scenic Hudson’s Black Creek preserve. There is something for everyone here, and it begins only yards from the parking lot. Since my children have been small, this has been our favorite outdoor classroom! There is so much life in creeks, vernal pools, and Hudson River, and…

Peter’s Kill, Round 2

There are some places we return to again and again, despite knowing the trails by heart. We are not bored when we retrace our footsteps, because these places still steal our breath. The Peter’s Kill trail is one of our favorites, and in heavy rotation. Starting from the parking lot, we take the Red trail…

Peter’s Kill, Minnewaska

While I enjoy discovering new places, there are some that pull me back with a magnetic force so strong I cannot resist. Peter’s Kill is one of those places. I hesitated to write this post, because lately, sharing this information leads people to these places. While most visitors are respectful, some have been littering and…
